Standard CAD/CAM software packages are feature rich with many tools to make tasks easier. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t get much more out of your software by using add-on features that have been designed specifically with your industry in mind. These can help you to improve cut quality, reduce timescales and provide better management tools for plate utilisation. We’ve explored some of these below.
Autonesting & Marking: The Basics
Autonesting, as opposed to manual nesting, is where the operator selects parts to be nested and allows the software to work out optimal plate utilisation and process time. This process runs through several iterations before deciding on the final nest, but it is still a significant time-saver when compared to manually placing and orienting each part. Marking, meanwhile, enables an operator to mark part numbers, positioning marks, fold lines, and any other visual guides through plasma arc marking, a pin stamp marker, or even a simple pen. This makes secondary manufacturing processes such as forming or welding significantly quicker and easier.
True Hole: The Best Plasma Hole Quality
True Hole is Hypertherm’s patented technology for producing bolt-quality holes in mild steel, providing significantly better hole quality than what’s achievable with standard plasma, while still offering its advantages of speed and convenience. True Hole is available on machines with EDGE Pro/Connect CNC capabilities, a HPRXD Autogas or XPR plasma, and True Hole enabled CAD/CAM software such as Procut.
DSTV Convert: Essential for Structural Steel
DSTV is a file format used by building design CAD programs, such as Tekla Structures or Autodesk Advance Steel. Due to the specialist nature of this file format these files would usually have to be redrawn in order to be run through cutting software. DSTV Convert allows the native files to be imported into Procut, saving both time and expense, and providing further flexibility with construction clients.
Group Nest: A Simple Tool for Increasing Productivity
Group Nest improves user efficiency by allowing them to create a bill of materials in an Access database or Excel spreadsheet, and then import this data into Procut ready for nesting, rather than having to order and create the nests manually.
Parts & Plates: Maximise Your Plate Utilisation
This works with Profile Definition & Nesting as a database system and management tool, providing better control and more efficient plate utilisation. Features include a parts table showing required quantities, in production quantities, and produced quantities, and a plate table that allows the user to keep track of all plate stock, whether that’s individual parts or even remnants. This helps keep track of current work and reduce waste material.
All of these add-ons and many more are available for Procut for seamless integration into your work processes. To find out more, contact Dave Ward, our Software Support Expert, on 0115 921 0411 or [email protected].
