How to Home Your Machine

HVAC

Share this article:

Homing your machine is an important yet simple task that is quick and easy to do. Homing at the start of every shift will help to keep your machine running within tolerance and the Rail (X) and Transverse (Y) axes running perpendicular to each other – critical if you want your parts to be square and true. The following steps are applicable to all Esprit machines fitted with Hypertherm EDGE CNC systems.

  • From the Home Screen (the default screen displayed when you first turn on the machine), press the Manual Functions button or softkey.
On older, non-touchscreen controllers (EDGE I & II), this is the middle pushbutton of the navigation keypad with the green hand icon.On newer, touchscreen controllers (EDGE Pro), this is the white button to the left of the joystick. On the newest touchscreen controller (EDGE Connect) the hardware button has been removed but don’t worry, there is a Manual softkey that you can press on the right-hand side of the screen with a white hand icon.
  • The next screen you will see is the Manual Functions screen. Along the bottom of the screen will be a Home Axes button. Press this or the corresponding pushbutton underneath.
  • You are now on the Home Axes screen. You can either home you machine one axis at a time by pressing the respective Rail, Transverse or THC buttons (if you have one), or you can press the All button to home everything at the same time.

If your machine is working within tolerance you will be able to exit the Home Screen after the homing procedure is complete by pressing Cancel or the corresponding Done pushbutton until you return to the Home Screen.

However, should your machine be out of tolerance a message box will appear showing you how much out of square it is, and you will need to take further action to rectify this.

If you have an Esprit Arrow machine, follow the instructions below to correct your machine.
